At Engro, we believe education is a powerful tool for transforming lives and communities. Over the years, we have made it our mission to increase access to quality education. Through the Engro Foundation’s education programs, we are working to provide opportunities and improve the lives of individuals across these communities.
Engro Foundation is positively impacting the lives of over 6,970 students through a variety of educational initiatives. Our School Adoption Programs in Daharki and Qadirpur support 12 schools with 2,977 students. In Ghotki, the Katcha Schools Program provides education to 1,545 students across 14 schools. The Sahara Community School in Daharki serves 543 students, while our partnership with The Citizens Foundation (TCF) supports four schools—three in Karachi and one in Daharki—benefiting over 1,375 students.
Additionally, we are piloting Digital Micro-Schools in Karachi, in collaboration with the Teach the World Foundation (TTWF), reaching 175 students. Through a partnership with the Sindh Education Foundation, we run a school in Kacha Ghotki, educating 147 students. Our Non-Formal Education Centres, also in partnership with the Sindh Education Foundation, provide education to 210 students across three centres. These diverse initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to expanding access to quality education.
The Katcha area, a riverine region prone to flash flooding, faces significant challenges, including a lack of basic amenities such as electricity, schools, and healthcare. Since 2001, Engro Foundation has been working to address these challenges through its school programs. The foundation currently operates 13 primary schools, one middle school, one elementary school, and one high school in the region.
In 2017, Engro Foundation took a significant step towards empowering girls in the area by establishing a dedicated Girls’ Middle School. Despite facing considerable social and cultural barriers, the school started with just 10 students and now has 71 girls enrolled. To ensure high-quality education, women teachers from surrounding areas are employed to teach at the school. This initiative has not only contributed to a reduction in early childhood marriages but has also opened up pathways for higher education for girls in the Katcha region, empowering them with opportunities for a brighter future.
